Terre Haute, Indiana
Terre Haute ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Vigo CountyIndianaUnited States, near the state's western border with Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 60,785 and its metropolitan area had a population of 170,943. The city is the self-proclaimed capital of the Wabash Valley. With numerous higher education institutions such as Ivy Tech Community College of IndianaIndiana State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology located in Terre Haute, the city has embraced its college town persona. Terre Haute was named the "Community of the Year" in 2010 by the Indiana Chamber and is a quarter-finalist in the [https://americasbestcommunities.com/ America's Best Communities] contest, which is a contest operated by Frontier Telephone and Dish Network. Terre Haute was the home Socialist Party of America leader and five-time presidential nominee Eugene V. Debs. His former home is now a museum and is located on the campus of Indiana State University.
