Matthew the Apostle ( Mattithyahu or Mattay, "Gift of YHVH"; Matthaios; also known as Saint Matthew and as Levi) was, according to the Bible, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and, according to Christian tradition, one of the four Evangelists.
