The Province of Rome was one of the five provinces of Lazio, Italy. The province of Rome was the most populous of Italy, and is essentially coterminous with the Rome metropolitan area. Rome was the provincial capital. Province of Rome existed from 1870 to 31 December 2014, 1 January 2015 created a new administrative area - Metropolitan City of Rome.
