The Armenian-controlled territories surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh are areas formally part of Soviet Azerbaijan and situated outside the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast, which are since the end of the Karabakh War controlled by the military forces of the de facto Nagorno-Karabakh Republic supported by Armenia.
