A Salaf (, "ancestor") is an early Muslim from the first three generations of proponents of Islam. The Salaf are the first few generations of Muslims, which included Muhammad's companions (the Sahabah) and the first generation (the Tabi‘un) and the second generation (the Tabi‘ al-Tabi‘in) of followers thereafter.
