Information system
An information system is any organized system for the collection, organization, storage and communication of information. More specifically, it is the study of complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create and distribute data.

Management information system
A Management Information Systems (MIS) focuses on the management of information systems to provide efficiency and effectiveness of strategic decision making. The concept may include systems termed transaction processing systemdecision support systemsexpert systems, and executive information systems. The term MIS is often used in the business schools. Some of MIS contents are overlapping with other areas such as information systeminformation technologyinformaticse-commerce and computer science. Therefore, the MIS term sometimes can be inter-changeable used in above areas.
