Souris, Manitoba
Souris is a town in the southwestern portion of the Canadian province of Manitoba, 2011 population 1,837. It is located within the Municipality of Souris – Glenwood along the Souris River, from which it takes its name. The community is home to Canada's longest historic cable-stayed footbridge (177 m), known as the Swinging Bridge, which spans the Souris River that divides the community. The Swinging Bridge was built in 1904 as a means of transportation over the Souris River. Residents of Souris are referred to as Sourisites. Souris is surrounded by the Rural Municipality of Glenwood. The community was home to Alice Masak French an Inuvialuit author from Baille Island in the Northwest Territories.
