Salmonella is a genus of rod-shaped (bacillus) Gram-negative bacteria of the Enterobacteriaceae family. The two species of Salmonella are Salmonella bongori and Salmonella enterica. Salmonella enterica is further divided into six subspecies and over 2500 serovars.
