Toronto rapid transit is the system of underground and elevated railroad lines in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, operated by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). It was the country's first completed subway system: the first line was built under Yonge Street, which opened in 1954 with 12 stations. Since then, the system has expanded to become Canada's largest (in terms of stations) and second busiest rapid transit rail network with an average of 1,093,300 passenger trips each weekday (as of Q4 2014), after the Montreal Metro.
