The Hyksos ( or ; Egyptian heqa khaseshet, "ruler(s) of the foreign countries"; Greek , ) were a mixed group of Asiatic people from Western Asia who took over the eastern Nile Delta, ending the Thirteenth Dynasty of Egypt and initiating the Second Intermediate Period.
