The
Guayana Region is an
administrative region of
Venezuela. The region has a population of 1,383,297 inhabitants and a territory of 458,344 km², slightly over half the area of the whole country. It borders the independent nation of
Guyana (formerly
British Guiana) which forms part of The
Guianas. Geographically it is part of the
Guiana Shield and is also known as the
Venezuelan Guayana. It was once referred to as
Spanish Guiana, which is now divided between the Venezulan states of
Amazonas,
Delta Amacuro and
Bolívar.
