née Cavanaugh) is the lead character of
CBS television series The Good Wife and is portrayed by
Julianna Margulies, who has received much acclaim for this role, such as winning two
Primetime Emmy Awards for
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. In the beginning of the series, Alicia starts out as a homemaker and non-practicing
lawyer. But on account of her husband, Peter Florrick, being arrested while he was
Cook County State's Attorney, she returns to the legal profession as a junior litigator at the large, competitive firm Stern, Lockhart & Gardner in
Chicago,
Illinois. She works her way up the ladder, becoming a partner at Lockhart & Gardner, then founding her own legal firm—Florrick, Agos & Associates—with attorney Cary Agos and other colleagues. She becomes the
First Lady of
Illinois, after the election of her husband at the post of governor. Following the success of her firm, she ran for
Cook County State's Attorney, eventually winning the popular vote but being forced to withdraw on account of her political party's wrongdoings. Currently, Alicia Florrick is attempting to found another firm because her previous firm refused to re-instate her due to her blemished reputation.
