Super Bowl Era. The season began on Thursday, September 10, 2015, with the
annual kickoff game featuring the defending
Super Bowl XLIX champion
New England Patriots hosting the
Pittsburgh Steelers, which resulted with the Patriots winning 28–21. The season will conclude with
Super Bowl 50, the league's
championship game, on Sunday, February 7, 2016, at
Levi's Stadium in
Santa Clara, California. This season was also the final season for the St. Louis Rams (now the
Los Angeles Rams), as the team moved from
St. Louis, Missouri to the
Los Angeles metropolitan area.
